You cannot influence another person without first connecting with them.
Many people think the best way to influence someone is to give them information or input. But, without first connecting, the delivery of information or input is often blocked or defended against, because it’s seen as being judgmental, critical or controlling.
Connect first, then ask if the person would welcome your observation.
